Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The applicant needs a contract of employment signed by both the applicant and the employer, and a letter from the hospital employing the applicant confirming the dates of the Clinical Adaptation process or confirmation of examination dates with the RCSI.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The pathway is for nurses and/or midwives undertaking Clinical Adaptation and Assessment or RCSI examination. The applicant must have a contract of employment of minimum two years duration and a letter from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland confirming acceptance to the Clinical Adaptation process, valid until completion of the process or RCSI Aptitude Test.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The permission allows the holder to complete the Clinical Adaptation process or sit the RCSI Aptitude Test and apply for an Employment Permit allowing work as a nurse. It does not grant permission to work in the State until an Employment Permit has been granted. Family members may not accompany the person availing of this Scheme.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

Permission for a nurse seeking NMBI registration on the basis of an overseas qualification is granted for 6 months. The nurse must apply for and receive an Employment Permit before the AWS permission expires. Permission under the Scheme is not reckonable for Stamp 4 eligibility. The official source does not state whether the AWS permission itself can be renewed.
