The applicant needs a letter confirming the offer of employment from the Irish based host body and a contract signed and dated by the applicant and their employer.

The pathway is for locum doctors employed and paid by an agency in the hospital sector or primary care sector. The applicant must provide evidence of registration with the Medical Council of Ireland.

The permission is for the sole purpose it was applied for and is not transferable for any other role or purpose. Family members may not accompany the person availing of this Scheme.
Permission granted under the AWS is for the sole purpose it was applied for. It is not transferable for any other role or purpose in the State.

Permission for a doctor providing locum services in the hospital sector is granted for 6 months, as a block starting on the first date of entry. Some AWS permissions can be granted more than once, but this normally requires leaving the State between permissions. Permission under the Scheme is not reckonable for Stamp 4 eligibility.

Some AWS permissions can be granted on more than one occasion, but this normally requires the person to leave the State between permissions. Permission is granted in a ‘block’ commencing on the first date of entry into the State and expiring after the time period identified above, regardless of the overall duration to be spent in the State in that time.
Permission granted under the Scheme is not reckonable when determining eligibility for Stamp 4 permission.
