The EU Blue Card is designed for highly qualified third-country nationals who intend to work in a position requiring a high level of professional qualification(s), and who have professional qualification(s) in tertiary education required to perform the job, or relevant high level of professional experience of a specified period of time.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The applicant needs a preliminary agreement or a valid contract of employment for the establishment of a legal relationship for fixed-term employment of at least 6 months, concluded for the purpose of undertaking employment requiring a high level of education. The employer may submit the application on behalf of the employee with the employee's written consent.

The decisive professional characteristics are: a position requiring a high level of professional qualification(s); professional qualification(s) in tertiary education or relevant high level professional experience; and a minimum monthly salary of HUF 883,671 in 2025 (HUF 706,937 for listed healthcare occupations). For executive officers and ICT specialists, at least 3 years of relevant professional experience within the 7 years prior to application is considered a high level of professional qualification.
