  • Quoted provision is the original 2023 Migration Code text (Law 5038/2023, FEK A 81/2023); later amendments were checked only against Laws 5100/2024, 5162/2024 and 5275/2026 (FEK A 17/2026).

What achievements, recognition, awards, publications, reputation or other evidence establishes the required level?

The required level is shown by academic qualifications: the research organisation checks the candidate's qualifications against the research objectives, as confirmed by certified copies, before signing a hosting agreement. The official source does not mention awards or publications.

Can the holder change employer, work independently, establish a business or conduct other professional activity? What is the family position?

Researchers may also teach. Family members may accompany or join them by derogation from the general family-reunification rule, receive permits expiring with the researcher's, and have direct access to dependent employment and to providing services or work. The official source does not state whether the holder may change host organisation, work independently or set up a business.

What duration, renewal and accelerated or normal longer-term residence pathway is officially stated?

The permit runs for the length of the hosting agreement (one year if the agreement is shorter than 12 months) and is renewable. After the research, holders may stay one year to seek work or set up a business; that post-study permit is renewable and convertible into an E.1, E.3, E.4 or B.2 permit. No accelerated long-term residence route for researchers is stated.
