What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

Access to highly qualified employment. During the first 12 months the holder must notify changes of employer; the right to change job is suspended for 30 days while the authority checks the admission criteria. Ancillary self-employment alongside the highly qualified job is allowed. Family reunification does not depend on a prospect of permanent residence, a permit of 1+ year or a minimum residence period; family members have access to any employment and self-employment without a waiting period (subject to the restrictions referred to in art. 40(6)).

Κατά τη διάρκεια των δώδεκα (12) πρώτων μηνών νόμιμης απασχόλησής του ως κατόχου «Μπλε Κάρτας της ΕΕ», ο πολίτης τρίτης χώρας υποχρεούται να κοινοποιεί στη Διεύθυνση Αδειών Διαμονής του Υπουργείου Μετανάστευσης και Ασύλου την αλλαγή εργοδότη ή άλλη αλλαγή που μπορεί να επηρεάζει την εκπλήρωση των κριτηρίων εισδοχής, όπως αυτά προσδιορίζονται στο άρθρο 31. Το δικαίωμα του κατόχου της «Μπλε Κάρτας της ΕΕ» να αλλάξει απασχόληση αναστέλλεται για τριάντα (30) ημέρες, ενόσω η υπηρεσία του πρώτου εδαφίου ελέγχει ότι πληρούνται οι προϋποθέσεις εισδοχής του άρθρου 31. Η υπηρεσία του πρώτου εδαφίου δύναται Τεύχος A’ 81/01.04.2023 να αντιταχθεί στην αλλαγή απασχόλησης, εφόσον δεν πληρούνται οι προϋποθέσεις του άρθρου 31, εντός της ανωτέρω προθεσμίας των τριάντα (30) ημερών.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

Valid for 3 years and renewable for 3 years each time; if the work contract is shorter, valid for the contract plus 3 months, up to 3 years. Blue Card holders meeting the conditions for EU long-term resident status receive a residence permit under Regulation (EC) 1030/2002 annotated 'Former EU Blue Card holder' under 'Remarks'.

    «2. Η ισχύς της «Μπλε κάρτας της ΕΕ» είναι τριετούς διάρκειας και ανανεώνεται για τρία (3) έτη κάθε φορά.
