Which exceptional-talent, academic, scientific, artistic, technological, cultural or other profiles does the pathway target?

The route targets researchers coming to carry out research or university-level teaching whose hosting agreement states membership of a mobility programme because they plan to go to another EU country for their research (card 'talent-chercheur – programme de mobilité'). The talent-researcher card is also granted to researchers in another EU country who come to carry out part of their work in France for more than 3 months, without needing a long-stay visa.

What achievements, recognition, awards, publications, reputation or other evidence establishes the required level?

At least a master-equivalent diploma; for the mobility variant, the hosting agreement must specify membership of a mobility programme when research will also be done in another EU country.

Is an employer, nominator, recognised body, peer group or government endorsement required?

Yes, a hosting agreement with an approved public or private research or higher education organisation is required. The agreement must indicate that the applicant is a researcher and the purpose and duration of the stay.

Can the holder change employer, work independently, establish a business or conduct other professional activity? What is the family position?

The researcher card authorises the holder to work, with no work authorisation needed by the employer; a researcher admitted in another EU country may come for more than 3 months without a long-stay visa. Spouse and minor children can obtain a "talent-famille" card via the simplified procedure. The official source does not state whether the holder may change employer, work independently or start a business.

What duration, renewal and accelerated or normal longer-term residence pathway is officially stated?

Stays under 12 months use a long-stay visa equivalent to a residence permit; the multi-year card lasts as long as the contract, up to 4 years. Renewal is filed online 4 to 2 months before the current document expires. The official source does not state an accelerated or longer-term residence pathway.
