Specialists, managers and trainees must have been employed by the same company or group for at least three months without interruption; trainees must hold a higher education degree. You need to be able to earn your living in Finland through gainful employment throughout the time your residence permit is valid. Your salary must at least correspond to the salary specified in the collective agreement that applies to your employment relationship. If there is no collective agreement in your sector, your gross salary must correspond to the salary level observed for similar work at the host company. If there is no one performing similar work at the host company, your salary must at least be customary and fair.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The right to work covers the work for which the residence permit was granted. A holder of an ICT residence permit issued by another EU country may work in Finland for no more than 90 days (short-term mobility); an applicant for a long-term mobility (Mobile ICT) permit may start working as soon as a complete application has been submitted to the Finnish Immigration Service. The official source does not state whether the holder may change employer or whether family may accompany.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

A manager or specialist is transferred for a maximum of three years and a trainee employee for a maximum of one year; a transfer for a longer time requires a residence permit for an employed person. A first permit application must be submitted abroad; applications for an extended permit can only be submitted in Finland.
