Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

A student with a study residence permit can work in Estonia without a work permit, provided the employment does not interfere with studies. In the mobility section, students at Estonian higher education institutions may take employment without prior authorisation and without a working-hours limit on the same condition. The official source does not state the family position.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

A study residence permit may be granted until the end of the nominal study period but no longer than the estimated duration of studies, and may be extended until the end of the nominal study period or, after it ends, until the end of the estimated duration of studies. After the permit expires the holder may stay in Estonia for 270 days. A student cannot apply for long-term residence; study time counts for half toward long-term residence if a later permit is issued on another basis.
