What education or training is this pathway designed for?

This route (Form F-10) is for foreign nationals entering El Salvador to pursue technical, university or specialised studies, unpaid research work or internships; it also covers foreign students who additionally carry out part-time or contract-based paid work that does not compromise their student status, under Articles 109(11) and 125 of the Special Migration and Foreigners Law.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must provide an original enrolment certificate from the study centre stating the start date of classes (or proof of the enrolment process), or, for interns, graduation processes, scholarships or exchanges, a certificate from the institution assigning the applicant to those activities.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

The person who will provide financial support in the country must give a sworn declaration before a Salvadoran notary stating the commitment, the period it will cover and how the income is obtained (authenticated or apostilled if the support comes from abroad); the model declaration commits that person to cover all expenses, including studies and maintenance, during the stay.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

Foreign students may carry out part-time or contract-based paid work that does not compromise their student status. A student who works must present an original commitment letter from the employer requesting the work opportunity, with the signatories' signatures duly legalised and, where applicable, stating the legal capacity in which the employer acts.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

Temporary residence for study is requested for a stated period; the fee schedule lists a term of up to one year (US$70.00 Central American / US$140.00 non-Central American). Extension is a separate procedure (form F25, Prórroga Residencia Temporal para Estudiar). The official source does not state a post-study work or residence option.
