How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

Ecuador’s official temporary-residence visa for governmental and NGO cooperants and foreign press is issued for 2 years and, under the current procedure page’s cited Article 60, is subject to renewal once. The route covers foreign governmental or NGO officials, experts, members or consultants under a current headquarters or basic-operation agreement with the Ministry, and foreign press correspondents resident in Ecuador. The official page requires the current agreement, evidence of SRI/IESS compliance where applicable, a sponsorship letter naming the people, functions and period, and for foreign press an accreditation letter from the Presidency’s Secretariat-General of Communication. General requirements include a passport valid for at least six months, a recent translated/apostilled/legalised criminal-record certificate covering the origin or prior-residence countries for the last five years, proof of lawful means of support and the applicable fees. The 24 October 2025 reform adds general criminal-record and migration-registration requirements to residence-visa applications. The sources do not provide a separate post-reform renewal checklist or fully reconcile the practical renewal workflow; the current page’s fee and implementation details should be confirmed at filing.
