What education or training is this pathway designed for?

This is a six-month Danish job-seeking residence permit following completion of the Danish authorisation process.

Limits of the record
  • The permit is conditional on the applicant’s authorisation status and passport validity.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must hold a residence permit for the purpose of obtaining a Danish authorisation (Authorisation Scheme), and the job-search permit is conditional on having obtained that authorisation. If authorisation is not yet obtained and the permit is expiring, the Authorisation Scheme permit can in some cases be extended.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

The holder must be able to support themselves and their family and may not receive public benefits such as those under the Active Social Policy Act, state study grants, housing or unemployment benefits (possibly others); receiving them may lead to revocation. Accompanying family members may also not receive cash benefits, self-sufficiency or other Active Social Policy Act benefits.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

The holder is not entitled to work; working during the job-seeking stay is illegal labour and can be fined. Accompanying family can be granted an extension of their residence permit once this permit is granted.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

SIRI automatically grants a 6-month job-seeking permit with an Authorisation Scheme permit if passport validity allows (permits granted before 1 July 2024 did not include it; doctors and dentists apply only after the 5-year maximum authorisation stay). The stay only allows looking for work; on a job offer the holder must apply for a new residence and work permit, and in some cases can start the new job on submission.
