The internship must have a professional connection to your educational programme. Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

A Danish place of internship is required that is qualified to receive and train an intern; without a field approval it must describe the course of the internship, name the responsible person and state its experience with interns or trainees. It must submit a task description and training plan. Employment must follow Danish collective agreements (full time, typically 37 hours/week), and a paid internship must match collective agreements for interns.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The applicant must be at least 18 years old and must not have turned 35 at the time of applying. The internship must supplement an educational programme begun or completed in the home country or in a country of legal residence and have a professional connection to it; where the programme does not in itself support that connection, the applicant must have passed a sufficient amount of subjects relevant to the internship, making up one semester's worth of credits. For those who graduated more than one and a half years ago, the continued relation between the internship and the completed education is assessed. Paid internships must follow the applicable Danish collective agreements; for an unpaid internship, the applicant must have DKK 7,426 (2026 level) at their disposal for each month in Denmark.
