What education or training is this pathway designed for?

Change of Education is a residence permit under Denmark's Educational Attachment scheme for a person changing educational programme.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must be enrolled in a Danish educational programme that may lead to a job function qualifying for a residence permit under the Positive List for Skilled Work or the Positive List for People with a Higher Education. The institution must be publicly accredited; study at a private institution is not covered.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

The applicant must understand the language of instruction and generally study full-time; documented reduced hours due to partial sick leave or disability can still be treated as full-time study.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

The student receives a limited work permit: 90 hours per month from September to May and full-time in June, July and August; the permit does not allow work in other Schengen countries, and unlimited unpaid voluntary work is allowed. Family cannot obtain accompanying-family permits on this basis, though they may qualify under family reunification if they meet its conditions.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The permit covers the nominal duration of the programme while the student actively participates. It can be extended by at most 1 year if studies run over (longer for documented sick leave, pregnancy or parental leave). After completing an entire higher education programme in Denmark, a 6-month job-seeking permit under the Educational Attachment scheme can be granted, with the same work rights as during studies; a job offer allows an application for a new residence and work permit.
