A highly qualified position; salary of at least 1.5 times the average gross annual salary; proof of high qualification (completed higher vocational or university education of at least 3 years) or, in cases defined by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, an employer-issued confirmation of professional skills; regulated professions need proof of meeting their requirements.

Limits of the record
  • Contract length stated inconsistently on the same page (one year vs 6 months).

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The holder may stay and work legally in Czechia for the permit's validity in the qualified job; termination of employment and any change of employer or job classification must each be notified to the Ministry of the Interior within three working days. Family members can apply at a diplomatic mission for family-reunification long-term residence with a shortened 90-day processing limit.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The Blue Card is valid for 3 months longer than the work contract, up to a maximum of 3 years. It can be extended repeatedly for up to 3 extra months after the work contract expires, but for a maximum of 3 years. After 5 years of residence with a Blue Card in any EU Member State, the holder can apply for a permanent residence permit.
