The permit allows research work as a doctoral, post-doctoral or programme researcher, approved by a recognised research organisation under a hosting agreement. By law, researchers may also teach. Family reunification is open without the usual two-year prior-residence rule, and the family application can be filed and examined together with the researcher's own permit application. The official source does not state whether the permit is tied to the host research organisation or whether other employment is allowed.

Researchers who exercised short-term or long-term mobility in Cyprus may apply after their research for a one-year job-searching/entrepreneurship permit.
