For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm whether a visa, electronic authorisation or visa on arrival is normally required.

Limits of the record
  • Searched the tourist page and the 2006 instruction chapter 5 (5.4 visa, 5.5.1-5.5.2). They give stay periods for Dutch and US nationals but never state expressly whether a visa or advance authorisation is required; deriving "no visa" from the category would be an inference.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The LTU tourist definition lists recreation, sport, health reasons, family matters, study, religious purposes and business visits, provided the visitor performs no paid work in Curaçao. This describes the permitted short-visit purpose, not a work-authorisation route.

Limits of the record
  • Article 8(2) defines a tourist by a stay not longer than three months, while the current local tourist page permits Dutch and US nationals up to six months per year. How the longer visit is classified under the statutory definition is not reconciled by these texts.
  • LTU article 8(2): tourist purposes/no paid work

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Dutch and US nationals can stay as tourists for 6 months per year.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

At the border a traveler must show a valid passport, a visa if their nationality requires one, and the purpose and planned duration of the visit plus sufficient funds. For visa-free travel, NetherlandsWorldwide further requires a passport issued no more than ten years ago and valid for the entire stay, proof of ability to return or transit, and evidence of the visit reason such as a hotel booking or invitation. It lists funding guidance of USD 150–200 per person per day in a hotel or USD 100 with family, or a sponsor bearing financial responsibility; medical/travel insurance must cover at least USD 15,000 for hospital care, emergency treatment and repatriation. The visitor must not threaten public order, public health, national security or international relations. Curaçao’s airport border page also requires an ED card.

  • Border Control: passport, visa, purpose, duration, funds
It is important that the traveler can show a valid passport. A visa is also applicable for some countries. Traveling with a ‘sedula’ (ID-card) is pursued between the Caribbean countries. In addition, upon entry a tourist must show his purpose, duration of stay and financial resources during his stay.
  • NetherlandsWorldwide: travel documents, return, reason, funds, insurance
Entry requirements If you want to travel to the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom, you must meet certain requirements: Your passport cannot have been issued more than 10 years ago. Your passport must be valid for the whole of your stay. You must have proof that you can return to your country of departure, or transit to another country. This could be a passport, residence permit or visa. You can provide proof of the reason for your stay. For instance, a hotel reservation or an invitation from family or friends. You have enough money to cover your stay and any other expenses: when staying in a hotel: between 150 and 200 US dollars per person per day when staying with family: 100 US dollars per person per day when you have proof of sponsorship: your sponsor bears financial responsibility You must have valid medical insurance or travel insurance that covers medical expenses. The insurance must provide cover for at least 15,000 US dollars in medical expenses and include hospital care, emergency treatment and repatriation (including in the event of death). You must not be considered a threat to public order, public health, national security or international relations.
  • Border Control: ED card
It is important that when traveling to Curaçao, in addition to the usual travel documents, it is also mandatory to fully and truthfully complete an ‘Embarkation and Disembarkation Card’ (ED card) and to hand it over to the disembarkation officer immediately upon arrival or upon departure from Curaçao.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The Curaçao immigration page allows Dutch and US nationals tourist stays of six months per year. To stay longer, it directs them to request a Declaration Van Rechtswege; NetherlandsWorldwide describes the corresponding visa-free ceiling as 180 consecutive days in a 365-day period and says a longer stay calls for residence permission.
