Foreign talents and members of innovation groups employed by key sectors and industries of development in China may apply for residence permits valid for no more than 5 years at the exit and entry departments of relevant public security organs with their work permits and letters from their employers. A member of an innovation group/start-up business may apply for residence permit valid for no more than 5 years with a letter of guarantee from the leader of the group.

For foreigners entering China with S1 visa for the purpose of visiting family, the applicant shall submit a letter explaining the kinship (spouse, parents, spouse's parents, minor children below 18) from and the residence permit of the person being visited.
