Which travellers require a transit visa/permission and which officially documented exemptions are important?
The G visa is issued to persons transiting through China. A foreigner may be visa-exempt if covered by a mutual visa-exemption agreement, if holding a valid foreign residence permit, if transiting to a third country or region on a through ticket and staying no more than 24 hours without leaving the port or staying within a State Council-approved specific area within the set time limit, or in other State Council-specified cases.
