This route is for foreign nationals intending to enter Chile for specific seasonal work for limited, single or interannual periods.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The applicant must have entered into an employment contract with a natural or legal person that has started activities before the Servicio de Impuestos Internos, that has a domicile or branch in Chile, and whose object is services of a nature directly related to the main line of business declared by the employer. Nationals of countries with which the State of Chile has bilateral agreements on temporary workers may instead apply with a formal job offer.

The employment contract's services must be directly related to the employer's declared main line of business, and the contract's form and content must meet the Labour Code's minimum requirements under article 10, including, where relevant, the specific rules for agricultural workers' contracts under articles 87 et seq.

    El contrato de trabajo deberá tener como objeto servicios de naturaleza que guarden relación directa con el giro principal declarado por el empleador y la forma y contenido del contrato deberá ajustarse a lo dispuesto en el Código del Trabajo, específicamente en lo referido a las menciones mínimas establecidas en el artículo 10 de la norma, y de ser el caso, a los artículos 87 y siguientes del cuerpo legal relativos a los contratos de trabajadores agrícolas.

Ending the employment contract that supported the original permit is not by itself grounds for revoking it: a holder of this seasonal-worker permit may change employer without needing to notify the National Migration Service. A dependant of the holder may be granted their own Temporary Residency permit if their situation falls under numerals 1 and 2 of article 74 of Law N° 21.325.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

This permit may be granted for up to 5 years and extended for a further 2 years, but the holder's stay may not exceed 6 months in each calendar year. If the holder instead switches to the 'actividades licitas remuneradas' permit because they need to work longer than 6 months per calendar year, the time spent under this seasonal-worker permit does not count toward the residence period required to apply for Residencia Definitiva.

    Este permiso podrá otorgarse hasta por 5 años, prorrogable por 2 años más; no obstante la estadía de la persona extranjera no podrá extenderse por más de 6 meses en cada año calendario.
