    4. Temporary work permits 4. (1) The Director may, on application in the prescribed form, accompanied by such documentary evidence as may be required by the Director, by or on behalf of a person who desires to enter and remain in the Islands temporarily for the purposes of gainful occupation — (a) grant to such person a work permit, in these regulations referred to as a temporary work permit, in the prescribed form upon payment of the prescribed fee; (b) vary or modify the terms of such permit upon payment of the prescribed fee; (c) refuse the application for the permit; or (d) revoke a temporary work permit so granted.

The prospective employer, or the self-employed applicant where applicable, applies in the prescribed form with the documentary evidence required by the Director and pays the prescribed fee.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

A standard temporary permit may run for up to six months. The official regulations also provide a separate eight-month seasonal category that cannot be renewed and requires a three-month departure before another permit for the same worker.
