What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The nominee is bound to the supporting employer: where they do not already work for it, the nomination carries the condition of applying for a closed T13 work permit within 90 days of nomination and of starting work for that employer within 90 days of IRCC approving the work permit application. The official source does not state whether family may accompany the holder.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The route leads to permanent residence through IRCC: the SINP notifies IRCC of the nomination and the permanent-residence application must be submitted to IRCC within six months of being nominated; where the nomination is conditional, the SINP may advise IRCC to hold processing of that application until the conditions are met.
