What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

This employer-specific permit covers overnight camp counsellors, including faith-based camps. During summer, qualifying work is LMIA-exempt; work outside the summer months needs an LMIA. Campers and counsellors must stay overnight for more than a weekend.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

Before applying, the camp employer submits its offer through the Employer Portal, pays the compliance fee unless exempt and supplies the seven-digit offer number. Working for several camps requires a permit for each, proof that multiple-employer work is possible and a separate offer from each employer.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The main duties must combine supervising and guiding children with leading recreational activities. A job title alone is insufficient. Applicants must demonstrate suitable skills, qualifications and experience; the ten-year employment-history question is not a ten-year experience minimum.

Your main duties will include both of the following: * supervising and guiding children in summer camp activities, such as * planning and organizing activities * guiding and teaching outdoor activities * ensuring children’s safety and monitoring their activities * supervising children during meals * instructing children in daily routines and cleanup tasks * leading * sports * crafts * games * other recreational activities If the duties above aren’t your main duties, you’re not an overnight camp counsellor even if that’s your job title.
  • camp-apply: The work permit application form asks all applicants
The work permit application form asks all applicants about their last 10 years of work experience. This does not mean you need 10 years of work experience. However, you do need to show that you have the skills, qualifications and experience to be a camp counsellor.
  • camp-apply: You must provide a police certificate when you apply
You must provide a police certificate when you apply for a work permit as an overnight camp counsellor. The police certificate must be * in either English or French * from your current country of residence and any country you resided in for more than 6 months since the age of 18 * dated no more than 6 months from the date you apply If you’re applying for an extension of your work permit as an overnight camp counsellor and your police certificate doesn’t meet the criteria listed above, you must get a new one.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The permit is employer-specific. A counsellor cannot treat one camp permit as unrestricted authorisation for other camps: each camp requires its own permit and employer offer. Work must stop by the permit expiry date, even if a later must-leave-by date permits additional travel. The official source does not state whether family may accompany.

Limits of the record
  • Family work or study permissions have not yet been established for this route; do not infer them.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

More camp work requires a work-permit extension. If the original police certificate is over six months old, the extension requires a Canadian police certificate. For travel after working, ask at entry for a later must-leave-by date. Staying beyond that date requires a visitor-record application before status expires; it does not extend work rights.

Limits of the record
  • The inspected pages do not establish a fixed maximum permit duration or a dedicated permanent-residence progression; reconcile the linked extension instructions.
  • camp-after: ### Travelling once you finish working
    ### Travelling once you finish working When you arrive at the border, ask the border services officer to add a “must leave by” date to the conditions section of your work permit if you plan to travel when you’re done working. The “must leave by” date needs to be later than the “expiry” date (the date you must stop working) on your permit. You have to leave Canada by the “must leave by” date printed on your work permit. If you stay longer than you’re allowed, you may not be able to return to Canada to work or study. #### If you want to stay in Canada longer To stay longer than the “must leave by” date on your work permit, you’ll need to apply for a visitor record . You need to do this before your status expires. ## Extending your work permit To work longer in Canada as a camp counsellor, you’ll need to extend your work permit . If the police certificate you submitted with your initial application is more than 6 months old (from the date it was issued), you must submit a Canadian police certificate when you apply to extend your permit.
