What education or training is this pathway designed for?

It is for international graduates - people who have already completed their studies - who intend to make Newfoundland and Labrador their permanent home, and who must hold a valid post-graduation work permit (PGWP).

See recorded sources
Limits of the record
  • This is a nomination category for people who have finished studying, so the page prescribes no programme, level or field of study to be taken up; the study question can only be answered about study already completed.
  • The overview does not say what level or length of qualification counts; that is set in other lines of the page.
  • chars 7723-7882
Overview:  For international graduates who intend to make Newfoundland and Labrador their permanent home. Must hold a valid post-graduation work permit (PGWP).

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

Where the applicant graduated matters: graduates of Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic get exceptions to the rule that the job must relate to the field of study, while graduates of recognised public institutions outside Newfoundland and Labrador must have a job or offer directly related to their field and must have worked in the province for at least one year before applying to the NLPNP.

Limits of the record
  • No institution has to accept or enrol the applicant under this category, because the applicant has already graduated; the page speaks only about where the qualification was obtained.
  • It does not define which institutions outside NL count as 'recognised public institutions', and names no list.
  • chars 8214-8578
Field of Study:  Job should be related to the field of study, with some exceptions for graduates from Memorial University or College of the North Atlantic. Out-of-province graduates: Graduates from recognized public institutions outside NL must have a job or offer directly related to their field and work in NL for at least one year before applying to the NLPNP.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Sufficient funds must be shown to establish the applicant and any dependants.

See recorded sources
Limits of the record
  • No amount is given for the settlement funds.
  • No tuition, insurance, full-time-study or attendance condition appears anywhere on the page - searched the programme-wide eligibility list, the category block and the Additional Details section - which is consistent with a category for graduates who have already finished their programme.
  • chars 6257-6334
Settlement Funds:  Sufficient funds to establish yourself and any dependents.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

Work is carried out under a post-graduation work permit, which must still have at least four months' validity; the applicant must hold a full-time job offer in a TEER 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 (in-demand) occupation, and the job must relate to the field of study, with some exceptions for local graduates.

See recorded sources
Limits of the record
  • The page does not state the terms of the PGWP itself - hours, employer restrictions or renewal - only that one must be held and still valid for four months.
  • The family position is stated elsewhere on the page, under 'Who Can Be Included' (spouse or common-law partner and dependent children), and is not carried by this citation.
  • chars 7896-8100
Valid PGWP with at least four months’ validity remaining. Full-time job offer in a TEER 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4 (in-demand) occupation. Job related to field of study (with some exceptions for local graduates).

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The stated destination is permanent residence: the NLPNP is for people who intend to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador, and successful applicants may become permanent residents of Canada.

See recorded sources
Limits of the record
  • This is the programme-wide statement at the top of the category page, not a statement about the International Graduate category specifically.
  • Nothing is said about how long the post-graduation work permit lasts or whether it can be renewed, and no intermediate step or timetable between nomination and permanent residence is given.
  • chars 5194-5404
The NLPNP helps individuals who can positively contribute to the province’s economy and intend to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador. Successful applicants may become permanent residents of Canada.
