For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

No advance visa is required only for a traveller whose nationality and travel document fall within the Council of Ministers’ Decision on Visas (Official Gazette BiH 3/15, as amended by 47/17, 73/17, 40/20, 50/23, 7/24, 34/25 and 37/26). The latest amendment (VM 87/26 of 15 April 2026) adds a temporary exemption for holders of ordinary passports of Bahrain, Oman and Saudi Arabia from 1 June to 30 September 2026, capped at 60 days in total. The official source does not reproduce the consolidated per-passport matrix.

Limits of the record
  • The base Decision on Visas 3/15 and its earlier amendments (47/17, 73/17, 40/20, 50/23, 7/24, 34/25) are identified but their texts are not captured; the consolidated nationality/passport matrix remains to be extracted from them.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The visa-free provision exempts eligible travellers from obtaining an entry visa and grants entry/stay subject to the Law’s other entry conditions. Article 21 does not itself list a separate set of trip purposes or grant a long-term residence or work authorisation; the purpose and any required authorisation must still fit the applicable law.

Limits of the record
  • The source provision does not enumerate visa-free trip purposes; do not interpret its silence as permission for work or residence.
  • Current official legal consolidation through 2026 and independent review remain pending.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Visa-free stay is generally up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The Law allows an international agreement to provide otherwise.

Limits of the record
  • A nationality-specific agreement or current Council decision may set different details; the full passport matrix was not captured.
  • Current official legal consolidation through 2026 and independent review remain pending.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

Visa-exempt travellers still need a qualifying travel document and must meet the other entry conditions: sufficient means for the stay and departure, information/documents supporting the purpose and conditions of the visit where required, any visa needed for onward travel, and any health certificate required during an epidemic. Entry can be refused on statutory grounds even where no visa is required.

Limits of the record
  • The evidence requested in an individual case depends on the entry facts and border assessment.
  • Current official legal consolidation through 2026 and independent review remain pending.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

An eligible traveller does not apply for a visa for the visa-free entry itself, but must still meet border-entry conditions. The law does not establish an extension procedure for visa-free short stay. A visa-free national may apply in BiH for temporary residence on a separate legal basis, at least 15 days before the visa-free stay expires; if filed in BiH, the person may remain until a final decision. This is not an automatic extension or residence approval.

Limits of the record
  • No general extension mechanism for the visa-free short-stay period was confirmed in the sources consulted.
  • Current official legal consolidation through 2026 and independent review remain pending.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
