What education or training is this pathway designed for?

This route covers regular higher education at an accredited institution in BiH and student-exchange or youth-mobility participation. The amended law also allows a person approved for a specialisation in BiH by a competent authority to apply on this basis, subject to the general residence conditions.

Limits of the record
  • The consulted official sources do not provide a guarantee of approval; general conditions and case-specific assessment still apply.
  • No consolidated 2026 legal text was located; independent review remains pending.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must be enrolled at an accredited Bosnian higher-education institution or qualify through student exchange/youth mobility; the SFA form asks for a current-year enrolment certificate or exchange/mobility certificate. If the institution stops operating, an extension may be granted if the student has applied to another accredited institution in an equivalent programme.

Limits of the record
  • The official list of accredited institutions is maintained by the Agency for Development of Higher Education and Quality Assurance; the list itself was not captured for this route.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

The statute requires sufficient means without stating a numeric study-funds threshold. The SFA university form lists a certified guarantee, scholarship/exchange support, or bank funds; for bank-account funds it states a minimum of BAM 400 per month. The form separately lists a BAM 150 administrative fee; neither amount is tuition, and the undated form’s currentness must be checked.

Limits of the record
  • No tuition amount was located in the consulted law or SFA university form.
  • The form has no publication/effective date; confirm the BAM 400 monthly bank-funds figure and BAM 150 fee independently.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

A student permit does not itself give family members residence. A family member needs a separate family-reunification application under Article 50, which covers only qualifying close family of an eligible sponsor; the study provision separately permits the higher-education student to do temporary work through authorised intermediaries without an employment relationship.

Limits of the record
  • The consulted sources do not make family residence automatic with a student permit; individual sponsor and close-family conditions must be checked under Article 50.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

A permit normally lasts up to one year and may be extended under the same conditions. After the official programme duration, extensions may continue for up to two years if evidence of a repeated academic year is submitted. If the institution closes, the amended law allows an extension after an application to transfer to an equivalent accredited programme. Higher-education time counts at half value toward the five-year permanent-residence period, and permanent residence cannot be filed while the current permit remains based on higher education.

Limits of the record
  • Permanent residence remains subject to all Article 79 conditions; study residence alone does not guarantee that status.
