How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

A Standard Work Permit may be issued for one, two, three, four or five years. If the employer wants to continue the same employment, it must apply for a new permit one to three months before expiry; a complete timely application can allow continued work while pending, subject to the policy conditions. The official source does not state a longer-term residence direction.
