How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

Visa Policy-2026 issues the S (Student) visa for up to 1 year with multiple entries; it 'may be extended up to 5(five) years or full duration of the study period whichever is less', on the institution's recommendation with the passport pages showing visa and arrival stamp (police report if required), extensions being handled in Bangladesh by the Department of Immigration and Passports. The policy documents no post-study work or residence permission: employment is prohibited on the S visa and 'A visa category cannot be changed after entering Bangladesh, except for a Visa on Arrival'.

Limits of the record
  • No post-study pathway is documented: the policy bars in-country change of category for S holders and does not say how a graduate would obtain an employment (E2/E3) visa.
  • Overstay fines for foreign students may be waived for up to 3 months (para 9(a)(v)); this is a penalty rule, not a post-study permission.
  • The Los Angeles consulate student-visa page (BD__losangeles-student-visa.txt) states extension by DIP 'up to the course tenure', consistent with the policy.
  • The policy's category table is a multi-column layout; in the text capture some column cells interleave, so a few quotes read across neighbouring columns of the same row.
  • Source is 'Visa Policy-2026', Ministry of Home Affairs of Bangladesh (first publication 2006, first amendment 2016, second publication 2026; publication date August 2026), para 35 'will come into effect immediately' and para 33 repealing the earlier circulars; captured 2026-09-22 from the Bangladesh Police Special Branch immigration site (immi.specialbranch.gov.bd), not from the Ministry's own domain, and no gazette number is printed in it.
