This stream is only available to holders of a first Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work, or Replacement stream, who must continue to hold that visa when they apply, and must not have already been the primary holder of a Post-Vocational Education Work stream, Second Post-Higher Education Work stream, or subclass 476 visa. The applicant must be 35 years of age or under when they apply (under 50 is allowed if the first visa used a Masters by research or Doctoral degree, or if holding a Hong Kong or British National Overseas passport), be in Australia (not in immigration clearance) when they apply, have obtained the qualifying degree from a CRICOS-registered Australian education provider whose campus was in a designated regional area, and have lived only in a designated regional area for at least 2 years immediately before applying.

This stream is for graduates who hold a first Temporary Graduate visa in the Post-Higher Education Work, Post-Study Work or Replacement stream, whose degree came from a CRICOS registered course at an education institution based in an eligible designated regional area. The applicant must have lived in an eligible designated regional area for at least 2 years immediately before applying and must be aged 35 years or under when applying (exceptions apply). Any work and study done while holding the first Temporary Graduate visa must have been in the designated regional area. This is a temporary visa granted for between 1 and 2 years, depending on where the holder studied and lived: generally an additional 1 year for a Category 2 area (2 years for Category 2 areas in Tasmania) and an additional 2 years for a Category 3 area; anyone who has moved between categories is considered for the shorter visa, unless they have lived in Category 2 and 3 areas in Tasmania. The visa starts on the date of grant, and time spent outside Australia does not extend it. A person who has been the primary holder of a Second Post-Higher Education Work stream visa is not eligible for this visa. Current and future Temporary Graduate visa holders from Hong Kong may have a pathway to permanent residency after 5 years; other holders might be eligible for other skilled work visas.
