What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

This visa is closed to new applications. It is a temporary visa for skilled workers who want to live and work in Australia. Applicants had to be nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or be sponsored by an eligible relative; have an occupation on a relevant skilled occupation list and a suitable skills assessment for that occupation; be invited to apply; score 65 points or more on the points test; and have at least Competent English at the time of invitation.

The listed requirements do not include a job offer or employer. Instead, the applicant must be nominated to apply by a state or territory government agency, or be sponsored by an eligible relative. The nomination must not be withdrawn, and the Minister must accept a relative's sponsorship, or the visa will not be granted. Once granted, the holder can work in any occupation and for any employer, in line with the work and residence conditions attached to the visa. This visa is closed to new applications.

The pathway is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia. This visa is closed to new applications.

This is a temporary visa allowing stay for 4 years from grant. It cannot be extended, but if eligible, holders may apply for permanent residence through the Skilled-Regional (Residence) visa (subclass 887).
