From 1 May 2025, the Pacific Engagement visa (subclass 192) has 2 streams: the Pacific Engagement stream, for eligible Pacific island and Timor-Leste nationals selected by ballot, and the Treaty stream (Tuvalu), for Tuvaluan nationals only under the Australia-Tuvalu Falepili Union treaty. Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

In the Pacific Engagement stream, the applicant, or their spouse or de facto partner included in the application, must have an offer of employment in Australia. It must be a written job offer or employment contract for ongoing employment in Australia that includes details of the position; details of the wages and conditions that are no less favourable than those that apply, or would apply, to an Australian citizen performing equivalent work at the same location; details of the Australian employer, including business registration and contact details; and the Australian workplace standards or industry award that applies to the position. The offer can be permanent full-time, permanent part-time or a fixed-term contract with the same work entitlements as permanent employment; casual contracts are not considered ongoing employment. If the information is not available when applying, it must be provided as soon as possible afterwards. The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the employment requirement for the Treaty stream (Tuvalu).

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The visa is allocated by ballot: applicants must be selected in the ballot and invited to apply, and the ballots are specific to each stream (the Pacific Engagement stream for eligible Pacific island and Timor-Leste nationals, and the Treaty stream for Tuvaluan nationals only). In the Pacific Engagement stream, applicants must be aged between 18 and 45 years (inclusive) on the date the ballot registration period opens for their country, and the applicant or their partner must have an offer of employment in Australia. The official source does not state an occupation, qualification, salary or skill-level requirement.
