A.1 is Andorra's initial residence and work authorisation for employed workers. It allows the holder to live and work in the country permanently and effectively while the authorisation is valid. It is for a newly arrived person who fits within the immigration quota set by regulation, holds an indefinite employment contract with a company legally constituted in Andorra, and establishes permanent and effective residence in the Principality.

The applicant must hold an indefinite employment contract with a company legally constituted in Andorra, and the file must include the employment contract itself and a record of professional and salary conditions. A CASS social-security points extract is required if the applicant has previously worked in Andorra, and a sworn declaration on the training plan also forms part of the file.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The first authorisation lasts one year and is renewable three times for two-year periods. After seven years, successive renewals are issued for ten-year periods, except for nationals of states that have signed and ratified a convention with the Principality of Andorra, who are referred to the A.2 renewal procedure.
