For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Travellers need a US Visa / Waiver 30-Day Visitor Permit, applied for and paid online before travel with American Samoa Immigration (Department of Legal Affairs). To qualify, travellers must have a valid US visa or green card or be a citizen of a US visa waiver country. American Samoa Immigration reserves the right to deny a permit for any reason, including an untimely application or an application for someone previously excluded or deported.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

The official page presents this as a visitor permit for travellers who have a valid US visa or green card or are citizens of a US visa waiver country, with a roundtrip ticket showing travel within 30 days. It does not state which visit purposes are allowed, and it does not state any permission to work or study. The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the permitted purposes of the visit.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

Bring the emailed permit: you will be emailed a US Visa 30-Day Permit that you will be required to present to an immigration officer upon arrival. Carry with it identification such as a valid passport or document of identity valid at least 6 months after departure, a roundtrip ticket showing travel within 30 days, a confirmed hotel booking or verification of the name and location of the home if staying with family, and a local contact phone number. Without the approved permit you may be turned away at any of the Ports of Entry in American Samoa and be required to return on the same vessel you embarked on.
