What education or training is this pathway designed for?

This route is for an alien who has entered and resides in Albania with the intention to study at a public or private educational establishment recognised by the Albanian State, admitted to an educational institution, or attending training or a traineeship.

The institution must be a public or private educational establishment recognised by the Albanian State. The permit also covers an alien admitted to an educational institution, or attending training or a traineeship.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Article 46(3) requires the alien to prove admission by the educational establishment, sufficient knowledge of the language of education or training, and sufficient funds to cover living costs in Albania. To renew, the alien must prove study progress made, among other requirements. The law does not state a minimum funds figure, tuition amounts or an insurance requirement.

After the first year of studies, the holder of a student's residence permit has the right to be employed after school hours, or may be given the right to engage in self-employment, observing a maximum limit of 15 hours a week (or its equivalent in days or months per year), without needing authorisation from the National Agency for Employment and Skills. The employer must notify the competent State authorities of the start and end of the employment. During the course of studies, the student's residence permit may not be substituted with a residence permit for working purposes. The official source does not state the family position.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The residence permit is valid for not longer than one year when issued for the first time, and may be renewed for one year each time until the alien finishes school, completes studies or the traineeship; where the course is shorter than one year, the permit is valid for the duration of the course. Upon completion of studies, the alien may apply for a single (work) permit if all the employment requirements under the law are met.
